JILIN, April 20, 2026 - PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical Company has officially commenced construction of its thousand-ton high-performance carbon fiber project. Upon completion, the facility will significantly enhance China’s production capacity for high-performance carbon fiber and help position the company among the top tier of the domestic carbon fiber industry.

The project is located in the western section of the Jilin Chemical Industrial Circular Economy Demonstration Park, within the fertilizer plant complex of Jilin Petrochemical. The facility will be built on land already owned by Jilin Petrochemical, requiring no new land acquisition. Classified as a new-build project, the total approved investment is RMB 1.16057 billion (excluding taxes).

The project has a planned construction period of 17 months, with civil works scheduled to begin in April 2026. Completion of the high-performance carbon fiber unit is expected to be handed over for commissioning by September 2027. The project will fall under the management of Jilin Petrochemical’s Synthetic Resin (Carbon Fiber) Plant and will follow the relevant requirements of PetroChina regarding management systems and organizational structure. The facility is expected to employ 236 people, all of whom will be redeployed from existing positions within Jilin Petrochemical, with no new headcount added.

The core product of the project is JHT55-24K high-performance carbon fiber, equivalent to Toray’s T800 grade, with a designed annual capacity of 1,400 tons. Jilin Petrochemical possesses a mature carbon fiber technology system and complete independent intellectual property rights. This thousand-ton carbon fiber project represents an industrial-scale transformation of its existing research and development achievements and will effectively address challenges such as inconsistent product performance in carbon fiber manufacturing.
