On September 12, Shaanxi Hydrogen Energy Storage Equipment Technology Co., Ltd. held a rollout ceremony for its Type IV hydrogen storage cylinders at the Type IV Cylinder Technology Commercialization Center within Yuyang Economic and Technological Development Zone (Yuyang ETDZ).

Type IV hydrogen storage cylinders adopt a carbon fiber fully-wrapped composite structure with a plastic liner. Boasting light weight, high hydrogen storage density and extended service life, they represent core critical hardware for hydrogen storage and transportation. The cylinders are suitable for hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks, UAVs and other on-board and special hydrogen equipment.

The automated pilot production line, funded and built by the company, features a designed annual capacity of 5,000 Type IV high-pressure hydrogen cylinders. It accommodates both 35 MPa and 70 MPa pressure ratings, with product volumes spanning 20 L to 450 L. Outfitted with high-precision injection molding, high-accuracy infrared welding and controlled fiber winding equipment, the line incorporates a digital twin-enabled quality control information system. It enables standardized, controlled pilot manufacturing and underpins the industrial rollout of hydrogen technologies for heavy-duty transport and low-altitude economy applications.

This Type IV cylinder automated production rollout fills the regional void in high-end hydrogen storage equipment manufacturing. It serves as a landmark project for Yuyang ETDZ to nurture new-quality productive forces and drive energy industry transformation and upgrading. The development zone will further refine its business environment, bolster factor support, deliver full-lifecycle enterprise services and establish industrial matching platforms. These initiatives seek to extend, reinforce and complete the hydrogen industrial chain, drawing more upstream and downstream firms to form industrial clusters.
