At the recently concluded China Composites Expo 2026, Proxxima showcased a portfolio of innovative transportation solutions built upon its thermoset polyolefin resin systems. Among the featured exhibits, the new-energy vehicle battery underbody shield drew strong interest from automotive professionals by virtue of its safety, lightweight construction and process efficiency.

The exhibited battery underbody shield marks a phased deliverable from the joint development programme between Proxxima and Coleitec. As a national-level Specialized, Refined, Unique and Innovative “Little Giant” enterprise, Coleitec focuses on green and smart composite materials, with business footprint covering new-energy vehicles, energy storage systems, 3C smart terminals, low-altitude economy and commercial aerospace.

EV safety regulations continue to tighten. The mandatory national standard GB 38031-2025, Safety Requirements for Traction Batteries of Electric Vehicles, released in 2025, introduced bottom impact testing for traction batteries into formal safety assessment for the first time. It imposes stricter requirements for real-world scenarios including undercarriage scraping, flying-stone impact and collision with road debris, advancing battery systems toward inherent safety. The standard took effect on July 1, 2026.

Against this backdrop, battery pack bottom protection is no longer merely an added performance advantage; it has become a critical metric governing vehicle safety and regulatory compliance. Serving as the protective barrier for battery packs, the underbody shield must strike an optimal balance between lightweight design and high strength to form a robust safety line of defence for battery systems.

To address escalating demands for battery bottom protection, Proxxima leverages its high-toughness resin systems, paired with Coleitec’s expertise in advanced HP-RTM forming technology. The partners have engineered the battery underbody shield with exceptional bottom impact resistance to deliver more reliable safety protection for battery packs.

The industry push for EV lightweighting keeps accelerating. Traditional metallic underbody shields carry substantial weight, which negatively impacts vehicle energy consumption and driving range. Thanks to low density, Proxxima’s resin systems enable lighter composite components. This battery shield solution balances lightweight performance and structural integrity, trimming vehicle weight and extending cruising range.

With the fast expansion of the new-energy vehicle market, demand for battery underbody shields rises correspondingly, making production efficiency a decisive factor for serial production. Characterized by low viscosity, Proxxima’s resin systems unlock greater design freedom. Reinforcement rib layout, cross-sectional geometry and thickness can be flexibly customized to achieve targeted structural reinforcement in high-risk protection zones. Coupled with fast-curing properties, the resin significantly shortens molding cycle time and supports seamless transition from specimen development to serial manufacturing.

In addition, within the cradle-to-gate boundary, Proxxima’s resin systems deliver an estimated product carbon footprint (CFP) reduction of up to roughly 60% compared with equivalent epoxy resins, enabling customers to advance their sustainability goals.
