Largest Single Carbon Fiber Production Line Commences Operation in Inner Mongolia, Marking 3000 Tons Capacity

BAOTOU, China - On May 8, Inner Mongolia New Jinshan Carbon Fiber Co., Ltd. commenced production of the first phase of its 30,000-ton-per-year carbon fiber project. The initial phase delivers an annual capacity of 6,000 tons, marking a significant step toward large-scale, green production of large-tow carbon fiber.

The project leverages Shanghai Petrochemical's proprietary large-tow carbon fiber patent technologies and the abundant green electricity resources of Inner Mongolia to build ten more energy-efficient and highly productive carbon fiber production lines. In this first phase, two production lines have been brought online, each with a design capacity exceeding 3,000 tons per year-making them the largest single-line production facilities for 48K large-tow carbon fiber in China. The remaining eight lines in the second phase are expected to be fully completed and operational by the end of 2027.

Building on the company's original large-tow carbon fiber technology, continuous breakthroughs and iterative optimizations have increased single-line capacity by 50% compared to existing production lines, while achieving 100% localization of critical equipment. The facility can produce 48K, 60K, and other specifications of large-tow carbon fiber, providing high-quality material support for industries such as wind power, energy storage, and the low-altitude economy.

The project has established a circular industrial chain linking green energy and high-end new materials. Capitalizing on Inner Mongolia’s abundant wind and solar resources as well as its cost advantages in labor, the project is expected to achieve a green electricity usage rate of over 60%. Compared to coal-powered electricity, each production line can reduce carbon emissions by 20,000 tons per year—equivalent to planting 1.25 million trees.
