This is equivalent to approximately 5 million conventional solar panels deployed worldwide, covering an area larger than 1,100 standard football fields. This achievement highlights market recognition of this innovative technology.

As the second-largest cost component of PV modules after solar cells, traditional aluminum alloy frames typically account for 10–15% of total module costs. Against the backdrop of cost pressures and high aluminum prices in the PV industry, polyurethane composite frames demonstrate significant advantages.

The innovative Baydur® polyurethane composite frame offers high strength, corrosion resistance, and excellent insulation properties, effectively enhancing module performance and lifespan while helping manufacturers mitigate the impact of aluminum price fluctuations and achieve cost efficiency. Additionally, the carbon footprint of Baydur® polyurethane composite is 85% lower than that of primary aluminum extrusions used in conventional frames

China has been the world’s leading producer of PV modules for many years. In 2023, as the solar industry faced unprecedented cost pressures, Covestro’s composite frame technology achieved a critical breakthrough. With its outstanding advantages and dual authoritative certifications (TÜV Rheinland and TÜV SÜD), it quickly gained market traction. By 2024, multiple module manufacturers had begun large-scale production of modules using Baydur® polyurethane composite frames, marking a significant milestone. According to the International Energy Agency’s Renewables 2024 report, global renewable energy capacity additions from 2024 to 2030 are expected to exceed 5,520 GW, with nearly 80% coming from solar PV. The emergence of more cost-effective and sustainable innovative composite frame technology is well-timed and holds great potential.
