On September 17, ZA70GC (T1100-grade) carbon fiber developed by Changsheng Technology obtained PCD pre-approval from the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).
This represents another landmark milestone for Changsheng Technology in primary load-bearing structural materials for China’s homegrown C929 wide-body jet. It follows the company’s prior achievement: its ZA55GC (T800-grade) carbon fiber has secured formal COMAC PCD approval and QPL certification, and been deployed on the C919’s primary load-bearing structures. The advancement marks the first time domestic T1100-grade carbon fiber-the world’s highest-strength carbon fiber class-has obtained foundational eligibility for incorporation into primary load-bearing components of China’s large passenger aircraft.

COMAC’s PCD (Process Control Document) certification system acts as the entry credential for materials and processes deployed on China's large aircraft. The PCD audit framework verifies that suppliers can consistently satisfy COMAC technical specifications during serial production by governing raw materials, equipment parameters, testing workflows and the full manufacturing value chain. It ensures predictable quality and robust batch-to-batch consistency. Serving as COMAC’s core control mechanism that evolves material management from “material selection” to “full-process material governance”, PCD certification entails long review timelines, high barriers and rigorous requirements. It is an indispensable gateway for domestic aerospace material suppliers to enter the large aircraft supply chain.
Changsheng’s latest achievement ushers in a new era for China’s high-end carbon fiber industry and domestic large aircraft supply ecosystem.
- Technologically, China has joined the global elite tier, progressing from material availability to superior performance and standing on par with international heavyweights including Toray (Japan) and the Hexcel (US).
- From a supply-chain perspective, the breakthrough mitigates critical bottlenecks, safeguards industrial security and markedly enhances full-value-chain autonomy.
- Industrially, clustered innovations drive high-end manufacturing upgrading and deliver cross-sector benefits under aerospace-led development.
- On the application front, the progress extends from the C919 to the C929 to support R&D of future aircraft platforms. T1100-grade carbon fiber has emerged as the preferred material for primary load-bearing structures of China’s next-generation large passenger aircraft. This PCD pre-approval establishes a firm foundation for material selection of the upcoming wide-body jet.
