WEIHAI, China - July 16, 2026 – Shanggong Feiren General Aviation (Weihai) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shanggong Shenbei Group, officially broke ground on its new carbon-fiber composite structural parts and light aircraft manufacturing project at the Weihai Torch Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone on June 17.

The project, spanning approximately 103 mu (about 6.9 hectares), will establish an integrated headquarters base encompassing the production of carbon-fiber composite structural components, final assembly of light aircraft, and research, development, and marketing operations.

Shanggong Shenbei Group has long specialized in material-joining technologies, ranging from conventional sewing and ultrasonic welding to carbon-fiber composite molding. The company's strategic expansion into aircraft manufacturing represents a natural extension of its core process capabilities into the high-end equipment sector. In recent years, the group has successively acquired U.S.-based ICON Aircraft and Germany's Flight Design. The Weihai project serves as the linchpin for localizing and integrating these international resources, creating a tripartite collaborative framework linking Flight Design in Europe, ICON in North America, and the new Weihai facility in China.

Weihai, recognized as a major hub for China's carbon-fiber industry, is home to globally leading enterprises such as Guangwei Composites. Shanggong Feiren has already established a joint venture with Guangwei, focusing on the R&D and manufacturing of composite structural parts. Additionally, the Weihai High-Tech Zone Low-Altitude Equipment Industrial Park, spanning 3,800 mu (about 253 hectares), completed its supporting infrastructure in 2025 and has attracted tenants including EHang. The new project is poised to integrate seamlessly into this rapidly maturing industrial cluster.
