On September 18, Chengdu Carbon Materials hosted the signing ceremony for a joint development agreement with the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET), Tsinghua University. The two sides will conduct in-depth collaborative research on carbon fiber composites intended for core support structures of (ultra-) high-temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGRs).

The jointly developed carbon fiber composites serve as the core enabler to dismantle bottlenecks holding back advances in nuclear power technology. This strategic initiative closely aligns with national macro-industry priorities and stands as a prime example of "high-performance fibers and composites", a category prioritized under China's 15th Five-Year Plan. It reflects Chengdu Carbon Materials' resolve to follow national strategies and fulfill its industrial mission.
As the primary execution partner for this joint programme, Chengdu Carbon Materials has attained a string of milestones in nuclear-grade graphite in recent years. Its independently developed graphite material for HTGR core support structures has achieved a landmark "from zero to one" breakthrough in localizing such critical materials. The firm has also obtained the Manufacturing License for Civil Nuclear Safety Equipment.
Moving ahead, Chengdu Carbon Materials will continue to harness Chengdu's innovation ecosystem to drive development. The company will deepen its footprint in high-end nuclear new materials, contributing "Fangda strength" toward high-quality growth of China's nuclear power industry and supply-chain security for national critical materials.
