PAN, a polymer derived from acrylonitrile, serves as the precursor for over 90% of carbon fiber production. This milestone marks the development of a fully bio-based carbon fiber feedstock, eliminating reliance on traditional petroleum-based acrylonitrile.
HS Hyosung stated, *"If high-performance carbon fiber is produced using this sustainable feedstock, preliminary calculations indicate a 15%–25% reduction in carbon footprint compared to conventional PAN-based carbon fiber."*
Bio-based high-performance carbon fiber holds promising applications across industries such as automotive, aerospace, energy, and consumer goods. HS Hyosung Advanced Materials believes this innovation will diversify its portfolio of eco-friendly solutions.
CEO Song Luoyang of HS Hyosung Advanced Materials emphasized, *"Our goal extends beyond commercializing 100% bio-based carbon fiber—we aim to transition all petrochemical-derived materials in our production to sustainable bio-alternatives. This positions us as a global leader in driving the eco-conscious advanced materials industry forward."
