The factory, located in Xinyi, Xuzhou, lies at the crossroad between the Beijing-centered Northern China and Shanghai-centered Eastern China. After fully exploited, the $614 million-cost factory will boast an annual capacity of 9,600 tons carbon fiber + 16,800 tons carbon fiber composite. Annual sales, as predicted by the company, will exceed 10 billion RMB.

Being world's biggest carbon fiber consumer, China consumes 74,429 tons carbon fiber in 2022, 19.3% up on a year-on-year basis and accounting for 55.1% of global demand, according to 2022 Global Carbon Fiber Composites Market, as released by Ata Carbon Fiber Tech. Guangzhou Co., Ltd. at early 2023.

Incited by the huge demand, the past three years has seen a swarm of newly-approved carbon fiber programs ribbon—cut all across China’s mainland, far and wide (more could be easily anticipated if not hindered by the assault of COVID-19 pandemic). Being one of them, Hyosung is slightly different as being the one setting up the first and the only 100% foreign funded carbon fiber factory in China, ahead of the coming of a balance point between supply and demand.


Days after the celebration of inauguration in Xinyi, sources from local media unveils Hyosung’s another ambitious plan to enter Southeast Asian market by investing some $540 million to build a carbon fiber factory in Vietnam. The three-phase program will ultimately contribute to an addition of 216,00 tons carbon fiber production capacity by 2031.
