(hereafter referred to as ATCC) held a groundbreaking ceremony at Xiake Bay Science City in Jiangyin, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, for its High-end Intelligent Civil Aviation Composite Manufacturing & Delivery Center, responding to the requirement for mass-production of COMAC C929 airliner.
Big-size airliners are known as "jewels on the crown" of aviation industry. C929 is China's first homegrown long-range wide body jet airliner made in accordance with internationally recognized airworthiness standards, and with independent intellectual property rights. The aircraft has a length of 63.3 meters, a wingspan of 63.9 meters, a height of 17.4 meters, a basic class of 280 seats, and a range of 12,000 kilometers, which can adequately meet the demands of global international and regional air passenger market. In addition, carbon fiber composites account for 50% of the body weight of C929.
As a leading composite-dedicated company in China, being also an important material supplier to COMAC and Airbus, ATCC has been deeply engaged in the joint development of C919 and C929’s structural components.
It is reported that the center is mainly invested and constructed by COTESA Asia-Pacific Composite Materials (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as COTESA Asia-Pacific), with a total investment of 1.02 billion yuan and an area of 103 acres. It plans to construct office buildings, factories, painting and assembly workshops and other related supporting facilities. Its production capacity is customized according to COMAC’s requirements, encompassing advanced equipment such as state-of-the-art Automatic Fiber Placement Machine (AFP), Automatic Hot Diaphragm Forming machine, 5-axis CNC Machine, Ultrasonic Phased Array C-scan Inspection System, etc., in an effort to construct an automated production line which can meet the demands for the development, mass production and delivery of typical structures for C929.
The first phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, creating an annual production capacity of 20,000 plus aviation-grade carbon fiber structural components, and an expected annual turnover of 800 million yuan upon completion, further consolidating ATCC’s advantages and position in the field of high-end aviation composite structural components.
The second phase will mainly focus on the joint research and mass production of eVOLTs bodies.
